From city driving around the Bay Area to rugged adventures to Tahoe, the new Subaru Outback is at home in any terrain. With comfortable seating for five and plenty of cargo space, tons of premium safety and entertainment features and an unbeatable level of capability under your foot, there's no lifestyle or activity that the new Outback can't accommodate. To demonstrate how fitting the new Outback is for drivers ready for adventure, we're going to compare the new Outback to the Toyota Rav4, and Honda CR-V.

Subaru Outback vs. Toyota Rav4
The 2025 Subaru Outback Base starts at $29,995, while the 2025 Toyota RAV4 LE FWD starts at $29,550. Despite the similar pricing, the Outback comes standard with all-wheel drive, a feature that's optional and adds cost on the RAV4. The Outback also offers a larger 18.5-gallon fuel tank compared to the RAV4's 14.5 gallons, and more interior space with 109.0 cubic feet of passenger volume versus 98.9 cubic feet. Rear legroom is also more generous in the Outback at 39.5 inches, compared to 37.8 inches in the RAV4. While the RAV4 delivers slightly better fuel economy at 30 mpg combined (27 city / 35 highway) versus the Outback's 28 mpg combined (26 city / 32 highway) due to the Outback's standard AWD, the Outback's longer estimated driving range and standard raised roof rails make it a more adventure-ready choice for drivers who value capability and comfort.Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR-V
The 2025 Subaru Outback Base continues to stand out when compared to the 2025 Honda CR-V LX. While both are similarly priced (the Outback starts at $29,995, the CR-V at $30,100), the Outback delivers more real-world capability and new features for 2025. It comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, while the CR-V LX has front-wheel drive as standard at this trim. Subaru also added some exciting upgrades this year, like an available 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a heated steering wheel, and an enhanced EyeSight Driver Assist system with a third front-facing camera for improved safety and smoother adaptive cruise control.
Inside, the Outback gives you 109.0 cubic feet of passenger space, more than the CR-V's 106.0 cu. ft. The 2025 Outback also offers 39.5 inches of rear legroom compared to the CR-V's 41.0 inches. The Outback also includes raised roof rails with integrated crossbars, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and an 18.5-gallon fuel tank that gives it better range than the CR-V's 14.0-gallon tank.
